How do you get your inspiration for the outfits you wear ?
I usually pull the idea from my mind, but I do look at magazines such as NYLON and Teen Vogue which might subconsciously influence me, but I usually never see an outfit them have to imitate it.
Who has had the biggest influence on your outfits ?
I really love the TV show Gossip Girl and the styles of Leighton and Taylor. (Blair and Jenny). Victoria Asher also has great style and I alays love what she wears. Usually the inspiration comes from my mind though or a collection of things, not a specific person or image.
What made you start posting your pictures on Chictopia ?
I really liked the idea of sharing my daily outfits with everyone and getting feedback. I also felt like I had something new to add to the mix of styles.
What blogs and websites do you follow and why ?
I mainly follow Chictopia. I love looking at everyone's styles and being apart of the friendly community. I don't follow too many blogs, but I do follow a few fashion ones like Abbey Karson and The Stylish Wanderer because I love their styles and we're similar in age. I also follow a few beauty blogs such as sarah29457 and DulceCandy87.
Would you describe yourself as a trendsetter or fashion follower ?
I think I'm more of a trendsetter. I like to be myself and wear what I like, whether it's in style or not. I do buy "trendy" pieces occasionally, but I buy them for the sake of liking them. I don't just wear them to fit in or be in style. I also tend to always gravitate towards the sale racks, so most of the items of clothing/accessories I purchase are last season's styles anyway.
How would you describe your style ?
This is tough! The words eclectic and feminine. I always wear dresses and skirts and I like to wear colors and pieces that might be "out there" sometimes.
Does the hosiery you wear dictate your clothes or outfits ?
Yes. Sometimes I choose a pair of tights first then shape the rest of my outfit around the pair of tights.
Whats in your hosiery drawer or closet ?
I actually keep all my tights and leggings in a clear plastic tub. I have a variety of items! I have the basics like white and black opaque tights, but then I have a range of bright colored and patterned tights! The majority of the colors are bright and opaque. I also have a wide variety of brandThe last items I purchased were two pairs of tights from Walmart. They had some new styles. I purchased a "static" print which is really just teal, purple, blue, and black dripping paint pattern. I also bought a pair of denim looking tights.
Do you prefer sheer or opaque tights ?
I prefer opaque tights, and that's mainly what is in my tub of tights.
How often do you wear hosiery ?
I wear hosiery daily! Where I live the temperature is moderate in the fall and winter so it's not too cold to wear tights. Sometimes I wear a pair of leggings instead if it is a bit chilly.
What is your hosiery staple ?
I guess it would have to be bright pairs of tights! My most worn color is hot pink though.
What are your style tips for wearing tights ?
If you want to wear bright tights, but it seems a bit out there at first, wear them with just a black dress or something black. The tights would be a nice accent to the rest of your clothing, but it won't be too crazy.
How do you choose your hosiery ?
Mainly based on price and color. If it's cheap, I'll buy it! Sometimes it's a risk because they might not be the best quality, but I don't wear the same pair everyday anyway so they'll last.
Where do you shop for hosiery ?
If you couldn’t already tell, tights are a major staple in my wardrobe. I have a huge collection, and I wear them everyday. From bright to dark, I have them! Here’s a list of my favorite places to find them.
1) Walmart. Walmart honestly has the best selection and variety I have seen. They have adorable sweater tights in prints like argyle and polka dots, as well as regular ones in bright colors! There is also unique ones for sale now, such as paisley or “static” print, which looks like dripping paint to me. I went today and they had a pair of denim-looking footless tights, and they were only $4! Walmart always has affordable tights year round, and the selection is always changing and unique! They’re also super comfortable! In addition to tights, Walmart always seems to have a nice selection of leggings! I’ve purchased multiple pairs, such as plain black and gray ones for $5 each and a pair of liquid leggings for $10. Such a good deal!
2) We Love Colors. Available at welovecolors.com, there is an awesome selection! They have any color you could think of in a variety of sizes for women, children and even men! There are also unique styles like the “splash color tights,” which are my absolute favorite. They are very high-quality and comfy! There are also sparkly and diamond prints, and even socks! There is such a variety of styles. Go to welovecolors.com to check it out!
3) Rue 21. This is where I bought my first three pairs of bright tights! I don’t know what inspired me to buy them, but I bought a pair of hot pink, green, and blue ones freshman year of high school. They’ve lasted me three years, and still hold strong, excluding the pink pair. They had a piece of loose string and I cut it, and a hole popped up. I’d say for three years though it isn’t bad! The green and blue pair are still fine. Rue 21 always seems to have nice pairs year-round. I recently bought a lace pair and a pink pair that came together for $8.99! They both are super comfy and are nice in quality. They’re reasonable and if you get them on sale they can be super cheap! I’ve also purchased some really inexpensive leggings on sale.
4) Forever 21. This one is a given. Though their tights seem to be seasonal, there is a great selection when they come around! They’re comfy and affordable. The leggings are super unique too. There is always funky prints and cute styles.
5) Target. After fall and winter is over, there is always the leftover tights on clearance! I haven’t seen anything too unique yet, but there’s always the basics and few color options for sale.
6) Wet Seal. If you can find tights on sale at the right time, they’re usually 99 cents! However, they’re awfully cheap, and the pairs I had ripped as soon as I put them on. These are the first pairs of tights that I’ve had that are not to great in quality. There are probably better ones; I just got unlucky!
7) Hot Topic. Hot Topic always has tights! They’re usually basic bright colors or striped, but you can always count on them to have some in stock. Last year I got some Tripp NYC leggings for $5 after Halloween. It was a super good deal and they’re amazing quality!
Those are my favorite places to get tights and leggings! I feel that the tights are usually great quality and will last as long as you take care of them. At prices so cheap, you’re able to get a variety for very little money! Tights in any of these stores never seem to be over $10 unless they’re a special kind.
Happy Tight Hunting!
What was the last hosiery item you brought and for how much ?
The last items I purchased were two pairs of tights from Walmart. They had some new styles. I purchased a "static" print which is really just teal, purple, blue, and black dripping paint pattern. I also bought a pair of denim looking tights.
What do you love-hate about hosiery ?
Love: The different styles and uniqueness! There is something out there for everyone and any style. They're a nice way to express yourself.
Hate: You have to be extra careful to not sit or rub up against anything they will snag on! Tip: If your tights begin to have a hole, use some quick drying clear nail polish to try to seal it up. Even if you can't seal the entire hole, it will prevent the hole from getting bigger !
